How to rig your kayak

1.Rolling Pin Anchor Setup

Rolling Pin Anchor Setup.
For my rolling pin anchor setup I have installed two latch downs, on each end of my kayak, and connected a pulley to each one, one on the bow as close to the tip of the kayak as possible, the other tied in the same manner at the stern. I then run a no-stretch yacht rope, 3/16 in diameter, through each pulley. Each end of the rope is tied with cinch knots to a triangle ring.

Next, I run the anchor rope through the triangle ring. With this setup you can locate the anchor rope at the bow or at the stern; with the pulley control the wind will help you, not hinder you.

My anchor rope is once again no strech yacht rope 3/16 in diameter, the length is 50 feet. In my opinion, fifty feet of rope is all the length an anchor should Have. Where does a 50 feet of rope go on a kayak? One fateful day while doing dishes, I was putting away siverware, when I notice our rolling pin, picking it up I spun the roller while I held onto the handle in my hand, the light bulb inside my head went off. The metal mechanisms inside the roller that allowed the roller to roll while I held the handles in my hand, would also allow me to wrap a 50 feet of rope around the roller, I could stick the rolling pin into 12 inch piece PVC three inches in diameter, secured with a hose clamp in the corner of my fishing crate. When I lift the rolling pin up by one handle high enough that the other handle is still inside the PVC holder the weight of the sinking anchor will put the handle against the inside side of the PVC, allowing the roller in between the handles to behave like a pully, allowing the anchor to sink down smoothly in the water, if I jam the rope wraped rolling pin back down into the PVC, it will behave like a brake-stopping the decent of the anchor. My rolling pin anchor set up completed with a rolling pin witch I stole out of my kitchen, my wife still hasn't missed it.
